Lake Nona is a planned community within Orlando, Florida. Its area is 17-square-miles and has a population of over 50,000. In 2000, its population was only 1,500 people. So to say this area has seen significant growth over the last 20 years is quite an understatement.
 
The community is named for a large lake in the northern part. The area features multiple private, governmental, and educational medical centers, including some ranked in the top five of all medical schools in the nation. 
 
Lake Nona is divided into five primary neighborhoods:
 
  • Lake Nona Central that includes VillageWalk at Lake Nona
  • Lake Nona Estates, including the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club
  • Lake Nona South, which consists of the Medical City and Laureate Park residential development
  • Northlake Park at Lake Nona includes the developments of Morningside at Lake Nona and Waters Edge at Lake Nona
  • Education Village, lies outside the original borders of Lake Nona but is embraced by the community
